S J Palin & Co Solicitors

Experienced Northumberland Solicitors

Wills, Estates and Probate and other Private Client areas

We are highly experienced in wills and tax planning, advising and drafting as to;

  • Wills
  • Tax planning
  • Advising as to potential disputes

We are highly experienced in drafting Wills for clients in all family and financial circumstances and use their expertise to advise and draft a Will which ensures that your wishes are carried out as far as is possible. We advise as to the tax implications of your options for how you wish to leave your estate, and include, only where necessary or appropriate, provisions for minimising Inheritance Tax liability.

With suitably qualified, appropriately educated and experienced solicitors acting for you in regard to your Will, you receive a reliable Will, created by professionals who are regulated as to their competence by a national regulatory body. Making a Will is something that you should not fail to do, or try to do yourself, or do through non-qualified, unregulated providers.

You will find our charges for Wills extremely competitive, usually £360-£420 inc VAT for couples and £180-£300 inc VAT for single Wills. If you wish, we will also store your Wills in our secure document safe free of charge.

Probate services

Unlike most law firms this firm offers a full Estate Administration and Probate service on a time-spent only basis. This means that the time we spend on the matter will be charged at their hourly rate, which for the Principal is £300 inc VAT. There will be no percentage additional charge according to either a percentage of the net estate or a percentage of the value of any house or other real property forming part of the estate, added to our fees. This is allowed by the Law Society so that most firms apply it, but this firm will not.

For smaller or simpler estates a fixed fee for our dealing with the estate is usually offered. This is quite often £3000 inc VAT.

We provide a fixed fee service for obtaining Grants of Probate including completion of the Inheritance Tax Excepted Estate Form, of £600 inc VAT plus the Probate Registry office fee.
